MSSU women's track competes at Southwest Baptist, Angelo State

The No. 5 ranked Missouri Southern women's track and field teams saw records fall and tickets punched in multiple locations today as the Lions were at both Southwest Baptist and Angelo State.

Distance runners went to SBU for the Lions as the rest of the team was at Angelo State.

Desirea Buerge set a new school record in the shot put with an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 15.86m (52-00.50), besting the previous school record of 51-03.00 set by Lions Hall of Famer Jessica Selby-Tallman in 2008. The mark is tops in Division II this year by nearly seven inches. Payton Roberts was 3rd in the shot with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying distance of 15.60.

Buerge wasn't done, however, as she won the discus in another AQ and school record of 55.54m (182-03) which increases her No. 2 mark in that event this year in Division II. Roberts was second in the discus with an NCAA provisional mark of 47.42m, while Kirsten Leisinger was third with a provisional of 46.52m and Alexandra Rodriguez was ninth. Leisinger was third in the hammer with a provisional mark of 53.85m, while Rodriguez was fifth in the event.








Morgan Ash was third in the javelin with an NCAA Provisional distance of 45.04m, while Elizabeth Pomatto had a provisional mark of 45.04m in the javelin.

Jasmine Deckard had a second-place finish in the 100m and a win in the 200m at ASU. Deckard ran to an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark of 11.71 in the 100m, while hitting another NCAA mark in the 200m of 24.01.

Sara Lin was 7th in one section of the 800m, while Mady Gepford won the other section. Morgan Smith was second in the 100m hurdles in an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 13.92, while Elizabeth Adeoye was seventh in the 100m hurdles.

Wynter Nekola was second in the high jump with a height of 1.60m, while Emily Presley punched her ticket to Nationals with an Automatic Qualifying height in the pole vault of 4.10m to win the event. Jordan Banker and Elizabeth Bisotto placed fourth in the pole vault, while Samantha Petry and Megan Tramel placed 8th and 10th. Ojurere Shonekan was 8th in the long jump, while Deiajuane Watts was fifth in the triple jump.

At SBU, Julianna Determan won the 3k with a time of 10:33.96, while Alice Evans was third, and Abbi Rogers was fifth. Danielle Prince was seventh in the 3k steeple chase with a time of 12:22.51.

Southern will be back in action next weekend as the Lions travel to Pittsburg State.
