The Missouri Southern women's track and field team has moved up to No. 2 nationally in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Rating Index, the organization announced today.
The Lions obtain their highest-ever ranking in program history as the team was No. 3 two weeks ago and move up from No. 4 last week.
Southern has two athletes ranked No. 1 in their respective events and three ranked No. 2. Emily Presley is No. 1 in the pole vault and Morgan Ash is No. 1 in the javelin, while Elizabeth Pomatto is No. 2 in the javelin and Desirea Buerge ranks No. 2 in both the shot put and discus.
The Lions, as a team, have 11 top-ten ranked event qualifiers this season and open up the 2019 MIAA Track and Field Championships this weekend in Warrensburg. Action begins at Central Missouri on Friday.
