The No. 21-ranked Missouri Southern Baseball team will be back at home this weekend as the Lions play host to Northeastern State in MIAA action.
Games this weekend will be on Thursday at 6 pm, Friday at 6 pm and Saturday at 1 pm. Thursday's and Saturday's contests will be at Warren Turner Field on campus, while Friday's game will be at Joe Becker Stadium in Downtown Joplin.
The Lions (26-13, 17-7 MIAA) come into the contest ranked 21st nationally and tied for the lead atop the MIAA. Northeastern State (11-28, 8-16 MIAA) sit five games out of the final spot for the MIAA Tournament.
Southern is coming off of a series win at Southwest Baptist this past weekend. The Lions are hitting .286 as a team and have a 4.50 team ERA. The Lions have all three weekend starters with ERA's under 3.00 as Will Bausinger(2.69), Zach Parish (2.78) and Zac Shoemaker (2.84) have been a force to reckon with this year for the Lions. Parish leads the MIAA in wins and strikeouts, while Bausinger is fourth in strikeouts.
Offensively, freshman Dexter Swims leads the way, hitting .389 on the year. He has a team-high 63 hits with 15 doubles and is third on the team with five home runs, while leading the team with 34 RBIs. Swims is second in the MIAA in hits and total bases, third in runs scored and sixth in doubles, while ranking 8th in RBIs.
NSU is hitting .265 as a team and has a 7.12 team ERA. The RiverHawks are led offensively by Colton Burgess with a .330 average, while Blake Freeman is hitting .329. Burgess has a team-high eight home runs and 37 RBIs.
