MSSU baseball to play host to Emporia State

The No. 21-ranked Missouri Southern baseball team will take on Emporia State tomorrow night in non-conference action at Warren Turner Field.

First-pitch for the game is slated for 5 pm and the game will be part of the Missouri Southern Radio Network on Fox Sports Joplin as well as video streamed on the MIAA Network. Links for each of these, as well as live stats can be found above in the story links.

The Lions (26-12) come into the contest ranked 21st nationally and tied for the lead atop the MIAA. Emporia State (21-15) sit two games behind the Lions in the MIAA standings. Southern took two-of-three from the Hornets earlier in the season in the MIAA series in Emporia.

Southern is coming off of a series win at Southwest Baptist this past weekend. The Lions are hitting .287 as a team and have a 4.38 team ERA. The Lions have all three weekend starters with ERA's under 3.00 as Will Bausinger (2.69), Zach Parish (2.78) and Zac Shoemaker (2.84) have been a force to reckon with this year for the Lions. Parish leads the MIAA in wins and strikeouts, while Bausinger is fourth in strikeouts.








Offensively, freshman Dexter Swims leads the way, hitting .386 on the year. He has a team-high 61 hits with 12 doubles and is third on the team with five home runs, while leading the team with 34 RBIs. Swims is second in the MIAA in hits and total bases, third in runs scored and sixth in doubles, while ranking 8th in RBIs.

The Hornets hit .258 as a team and carry a 4.71 team ERA. Tyrus Barclay is leading the team offensively with a .358 batting average, while Paul Claassen is hitting .310. Connor Hurst leads team with 11 home runs and 36 RBis. Tanner Cairns is 4-1 with a 2.36 ERA, while Jake Barton is 4-3 with a 2.82 ERA.
