St. Charles, Mo. - The Missouri Southern softball team led the day off with a game-one victory over Lindenwood 10-5 before falling in game two 4-3 inside the Lou Brock Sports Complex Saturday afternoon.
Game One
The Lions (17-18, 8-10 MIAA) got on the board via a wild pitch and never looked back as they went on to take game one by a score of 10-5.
Back-to-back RBI-doubles from Lexi Ferrari and Emily Harris, followed by a single from Ashley Caldarella extended the lead to 4-0 to conclude the third inning.
LWU (20-13, 9-11 MIAA) cut the deficit to two with two-run homer in the fourth, but the Lions came back with six runs in the fifth and held on down the stretch for the win.
Emilee Meyer and Caldarella both went 3-for-4 to lead the team while Elizabeth Windsor, Makaila Leonhart, and Josie Tofpi added two hits each through the game.
Taurean Guzman (9-7) pitched 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while facing 21 batters.
Game Two
Southern jumped out to a 3-0 advantage over four innings played, but Lindenwood answered by recording a run in the fourth and two in the fifth upon driving in the winning run in the bottom the seventh for the win.
Erika Lutgan and Angel Badalamenti each went 2-for-3 at the plate, including a single and double from Lutgen to score two.
On Deck
Softball starts a stretch of five consecutive doubleheaders at home beginning next Friday versus Missouri Western at 4:00 pm followed by Northwest Missouri State on Saturday at noon.
