Missouri Southern sophomore forwardCam Martin has advanced to the next round of the Bevo Francis Award Watch list. The award is handed out by Small College Basketball and is the Division II Player of the Year Award.
The list started with 100 players and was trimmed to 50 players today. It will again be trimmed to 25 players on March 15. The finalists will be announced on April 6 and the award will be announced on April 8. A ceremony will take place on May 11 at the SCB National Awards Show at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Kansas City.
Earlier this year, Martin tied the MSSU single-game scoring mark as he had 49 points against Minnesota State, helping the Lions to the overtime win. Martin is one of three MIAA players still on the list as Trevor Hudgins and Joey Witthus of Northwest Missouri are also on the list.
Martin leads the MIAA in field goal percentage, free throw attempts and free throws made, while ranking second in double-doubles, and third in offensive rebounds, scoring, rebounds, and total points.
Nationally, Martin ranks third in free throws made, fifth in free throw attempts, sixth in double-double's, 20th in total points, 24th in both scoring and rebounds, 27th in defensive rebounds and 28th in total rebounds.
Martin and the Lions are back in action tomorrow afternoon as Southern plays at Pittsburg State at 3:30 pm.
