MSSU women's track wins three events at Lion Open

The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up three event wins in the final day of the 2019 MSSU Lion Open and Multis on Mercy Track inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

Payton Roberts started things off with a win in the shot put and picked up an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the process with a heave of 50-01.25. Desirea Buerge was third with an NCAA Provisional mark of her own, going 49-04.50 in her best toss. Alexandra Rodriguez placed sixth.

Wynter Nekola was second in the high jump with a height of 5-02.25. Samantha Petry was third in the pole vault with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 12-06.00, while Elena Bisotto placed fifth with a provisional mark of 12-02 and Jordan Banker was sixth with the same provisional mark of 12-02. Megan Tramel placed eighth, while Lauren Sutherland was 11th.





Ojurere Shonekan was seventh in the long jump with a distance of 17-01.25, while Morgan Smith picked up an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 8.69 in the 60m hurdles to place second. Elizabeth Adeoye was fifth and Deiajuane Watts placed sixth in the event.

Jasmine Deckard won the 60m dash in an NCAA Provisional time of 7.63, while Smith won the 400m dash in a time of 59.30. Adeoye was second in the 400m, while Rachel Ray was eighth and Ashlynn Vanatter placed 14th.

Sara Lin was fifth in the 800m, finishing in a time of 2:25.21, while Mady Gepford and Sarah Peoples finished sixth and ninth, respectively. Kelie Henderson and Julianna Determan placed second and third in the mile, while Gabrielle Hill was ninth. The mile relay team of Vanatter, Kelsey Evans, Watts and Ray placed second in a time of 4:08.50.

The Lions will be back in action next week, as Southern travels to Pittsburg State on Friday and Saturday.
