MSSU women pick up two wins in first day of Lion Open

The Missouri Southern women's track and field team picked up two event wins in day one of the 2019 MSSU Lion Open on Mercy Track inside the Leggettt & Platt Athletic Center.

Claire Luallen started things off for the Lions by picking up an NCAA Provisional mark of 3,369 points in the pentathlon to win the event. Miracle Grant was second with 2,955 points. Luallen finished first in the 60m hurdles, the high jump, the long jump and the 800m, while placing 4th in the shot.

Jasmine Deckard won the 200m in an NCAA provisional time of 24.80, while qualifying first in the 60m dash with a time of 7.62, nearly tying her own school record in the event. Kassidy Owens was 11th in the 60m dash.





Morgan Smith was fourth in the 200m dash, while also qualifying for the finals of the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.62, breaking her own school record by .01 in the event she had set at the 2017 MIAA Championships. Elizabeth Adeoye and Deiajuane Watts both qualified for the finals in the hurdles, as well.

Adeoye was seventh in the 200m, while Owens placed 13th, Rachel Ray was 14th, Watts was 18th and Ashlynn Vanatter was 22nd.

The Lions will be back at it tomorrow morning as events start up at 9 am.
