The Missouri Southern Baseball team tied the game at three in the sixth, but Northwestern Oklahoma scored four unanswered runs to defeat the Lions 7-3 Sunday on Warren Turner Field.
The Lions (3-3) got a solid start from Cole Gacke who went six innings, striking out ten and allowing just three earned runs, but settled for a no-decision. Will Bausinger threw an inning and two thirds of relief and was saddled with the loss.
Freddie Landers, Denver Coffee and Troy Gagan had two hits each, while Alex Phillips, Coffee and Gagan drove in a run each. Davin Gummerr, Phillips and Coffee scored once.
After the Rangers scored a run in the top of the first, the Lions answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Gummere and Dexter Swims reached to start the inning and Phillips drove in Gummere, while Coffee drove in Phillips.
NWOSU (6-1) scored two more in the third to go up 3-2, but the Lions answered back with an RBI single from Gagan in the sixth to score Coffee.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend as Southern plays host to the MIAA/GLVC Challenge at Warren Turner Field. The Lions will take on Rockhurst and Northwest Missouri on Saturday, while taking on Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.
