MSSU women's golf signs five

Missouri Southern golf coach Mike Wheeler has announced the addition of five individuals, including one that will join the women in January.

The list of individuals includes four high school student-athletes that have signed early with the Lions to compete in the 2019-20 season.

Joining the Lions is Hannah Torres who is a native of Oklahoma City, Okla. and prepped at Piedmont High School. A four-year letter winner at the No. 1 bag for the Wildcats, Torres was an All-Conference pick and finished 28th at the 2017 Oklahoma 5A State Championship. The daughter of Chris and Shelly Torres, Hannah plans to major in business.





Kirsten Matlock is a native of Muldrow, Okla. and prepped at Muldrow High School. A four-year letter winner for the Bulldogs Matlock was a team captain and a No. 1 bag for Muldrow. As a sophomore, Matlock placed in the top-ten of all but one of her tournaments and was 13th in the Oklahoma Class 4 State Championships. As a junior, she was a top-ten finisher in every event, including winning the individual Regional Championship. This past year, she finished 20th in the Oklahoma 4A State Championships. The daughter of Kevin and Christa Matlock, Kirsten is planning to major in communications.

Kenzie Kirkhart is a native of Muskogee, Okla. and prepped at Hilldale High School. A four-year letter winner for the Hornets where she is a three-time Oklahoma 4A State Runner-Up. She won her conference championship as a junior. As a senior, she finished seventh at the Oklahoma 4A State Championships. She joins her former high school teammate and current Lion Allison Cunningham. The daughter of Chad and Jamie Kirkhart, Kenzie is undecided on her future major.

McKayla Hussey is a native of Berryville, Ark. and prepped at Berryville High School where she was a four-year letter winner

for the Bobcats. A three-time All-District and two-time All-State athlete, Hussey has two District Runner-up's and one Championship to her name. She placed fifth as a junior and second as a senior at the Arkansas 4A State Championships. Also a member of the basketball, soccer and track and field teams at Berryville, Hussey helped the basketball team to a District and Regional Championship, while helping the soccer team to a state runner-up. The daughter of Jamie and Lisa Hussey, McKayla is undecided in her future major.





Tayler Boyett transfers to Missouri Southern from Austin Community College and is a native of Dale, Texas where she was home schooled. Boyett is the daughter of Gretchen and Roy Boyett and will major in nursing at Southern.

"This is an excellent class of student-athlete women golfers," Wheeler said. "All are good players and solid in the classroom. This will be our second recruitment class and will move us closer to shooting the scores necessary to compete in the MIAA. Once again, Coach Derek Skaggswas instrumental in signing these future Lions."
