Missouri Southern junior pole vaulter Melanie Bower has been named the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week the league announced today.
Bower, a native of Linn, Mo., came within three quarters of an inch of breaking her personal best in the pole vault this week, competing at Central Missouri.
She posted a provisional height of 12-06.00 to win the event. That mark is the third-best vault in MSSU history and ranks eighth in Division II and second best in the MIAA.
The Lions will be back in action this weekend traveling to Warrensburg for the 2015 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
