Emily Harris broke a 12-year old record as the Missouri Southern women's track and field team competed both at the University of Nebraska and Central Missouri Friday night.
Harris picked up a provisional and a record-setting time of 9:52.78 in the 3k tonight at Nebraska. She finished second in the event, besting the previous record by nearly two seconds. That time ranks tops in the MIAA this season. Sierra Gray was sixth in the event, as well.
In other action at Nebraska, Amber White was eighth in the 200m, while placing eighth in the 400m, as well.Kindra Emberton nearly bested her school record in the 800m with a second place time of 2:12.67, while Harris was a second behind her finishing third in a time of 2:13.66. The two times rank second and third all-time in the event history at MSSU. Dora Eastin placed 14th in the event.
Dana Roberson was 20th in the mile, while Addie Mengwasser placed 21st.
At Central Missouri, the Lions had five event wins and five provisional marks. Melanie Bower had a big pole vault, nearly besting her personal best and posting a provisional height of 12-06.00 to win the event. That mark is the third-best vault in MSSU history and ranks eighth in Division II and second best in the MIAA.
Allie Heckemeyer won the 600 yard run in a time of 1:32.20, while Shelby Sutherland won the height jump in a height of 5-05. Kylee Hulsey was third in the high jump. Heckemeyer also won the triple jump with a leap of 36-04.00, while Mahogany Jones and Sierra Barrett placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
Brittani Reagan had a provisional in the long jump, winning with a leap of 18-08.00, while Kaylee Morganleaped to a provisional distance of 18-06.00, finishing second. Traci Walker was fourth in the event.
Walker was second in the 60m dash, while Ronise Miller placed fifth. Walker placed second in the 200m, whileDestiny Akannam placed third in the 400m. Kelly Jo Roberts was 4th in the 800m, while Shelby Werner, Sierra Wells, Kayla Bartelsmeyer, Miranda Hill and Cora Butcher-Spellman placed 2-3-4-5-6 in the mile.
Katie Skelton finished second in the shot put with a provisional distance of 43-06.50, while Alexis Acklin was fifth. Victoria Foley placed second in the weight throw with a heave of 51-07.25, while Halee Cashio was fifth,Allie Webb placed sixth, Skelton was seventh and Acklin placed eighth.
The Lions will be back in action today as a handful of athletes will compete at the Arkansas Open at the University of Arkansas.
