Missouri Southern distance runner Emily Harris ran the second-fastest mile in MSSU indoor history as the women's track and field team competed in the Jayhawk Classic Friday at the University of Kansas.
Harris won the afternoon mile in a time of 4:53.32, just a second off the school record and it stands as the second-fastest time in the indoor mile history at MSSU. The time, after being adjusted for nationals, ranks her third nationally and is the top non-AQ mark in Division II.
In other action, Lexi Pesek placed eighth in the morning 60m hurdles with a time of 9.54. Dana Roberson won the morning mile, giving the Lions a sweep in the mile, finishing the race in a time of 5:17.79, while Allie Heckemeyerplaced second in the morning 600 yard run with a time of 1:29.67.
Destiny Akannam placed 14th in the morning 400m, while Kelly Jo Roberts was fifth in the morning 1,000 meters with a time of 3:17.55. Traci Walker was 15th in the morning 200m, while Addie Mengwasser placed fifth in the morning 3k with a time of 10:55.34.
Kaylee Morgan was fourth in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 17-11.50, while Heckemeyer (36-11.75) andShelby Newell (35-02.00) placed fourth and eighth in the triple jump. Victoria Foley was fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 53-02.25, while Amber White was second in the afternoon 400m. Her adjusted time of 46.76 is a provisional mark.
Kindra Emberton placed fifth in the afternoon 1,000m with a time of 3:00.16, while Dora Eastin placed second in the afternoon 800m in a time of 8:21.47. Kaitlynn Belisle won the afternoon 3k in a time of 10:08.09.
The Lions will be back in action next weekend when Southern plays host to the MSSU Lion Open on Friday and Saturday.
