Chris Hoffman (pictured) had a monster day and head coach Bryce Darnell win his 200th career game as the Missouri Southern baseball team swept a double-header from visiting College of the Ozarks Wednesday, winning game one 6-4 and game two 7-2.

Southern (4-0) had a big first inning in game one as Hoffman knocked a three-run home run in the bottom half of the first inning to put the Lions up 3-1 after CofO (0-2) had scored a run in the top half of the inning.

The Lions added a run in the third when Hoffman scored on a sacrifice fly from Richie Gorski. Hoffman reached on a bunt single to start the inning. Hoffman added a sacrifice fly in the fourth scoring Jon Davis and Tee Helselsingled home Chad Shannon to put Southern up 6-1.

The Bobcats added three late runs, but Southern held on for the win. Tyler Burgess started for the Lions and went three innings, allowing two hits and an earned run. He struck out three and walked none. Cody Hutchinson threw three innings, as well, striking out six and walking none to move to 1-0 on the season. Nick Pettus and Kanon Hoover pitched in relief with Hoover picking up his second save of the season.

Hoffman went 2-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the game. Helsel and Gorski had an RBI each, while Davis and Shannon scored twice.

Southern opened up strong in game two, scoring four in the opening frame. Brett Graham drove in Gorski on a sacrifice fly to open the scoring, while Axel Johnson added a two-RBI single and Jesse Rall drove in Johnson with a single of his own.

The Bobcats scored a run in the top half of the fourth, but Southern scored three more in the fifth on the second three-run home run by Chris Hoffman of the day. Ozarks scored one more late run.

Payton Walker started game two and went three innings, allowing just two hits, while striking out three and allowing no runs. Hoffman pitched the middle three innings, striking out four and walking none, while Kyle McCulloch pitched a perfect seventh, striking out two.

Hoffman went 2-3 in the game with two runs and three driven in. Johnson drove in two and scored once, while Gorski and Shannon scored twice each. Robbe Ewing went 3-3 with a double.

The Lions are scheduled to play a weekend series at Southwest Baptist on Thursday through Saturday, but that is in question with Thursday's games already being pushed back. When final details are solidified, an update will be sent out.
