(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)
The Missouri Southern Athletics Department will once again host its annual Pink Game this Saturday as the Lions play host to Missouri Western on Robert Corn Court inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. Tip off on Valentines Day is slated for 1 pm.
The women's basketball Pink Game is one facet of the larger Pride for Pink Campaign that MSSU has been running this year. Each women's sport at Southern has had a specified Pride for Pink event, while t-shirts were sold and donations were accepted throughout the year.
The department started with a goal of $10,000 to raise throughout the year. To date, the total amount raised has surpassed $13,400 with this weekend's event, as well as an event with softball on April 15 against Rogers State still to happen.
During the women's basketball game this Saturday, each of the players will be wearing a special Nike customized pink jersey that will be auctioned off. Special Pride for Pink t-shirts will be sold and donations will be accepted as Freeman, Hope 4 You, the American Cancer Society and Zeta Tau Alpha will all be on hand selling pink items and providing information to the fans.
Also a big part of the afternoon will be the halftime performance of Robyn Slain. Slain, a former player of coach Ronda Hubbard's at Southwest Baptist, is a world-renowned female ball handler. She will perform her ball handling routine with special pink basketballs that she has done at several NBA games, as well as NCAA Final Fours.
All cancer survivors on hand will also be recognized during the event.
For any more information or to donate or purchase a special Pride for Pink t-shirt, please contact head soccer coach Alese Woolard at 417-625-3014.
