MSSU's Kiprop named Regional Track Athlete of the Year

Joplin, Mo. -- Missouri Southern sophomore distance runner Vincent Kiprop has been named the United States Cross Country and Track and Field Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Track Athlete of the Year, the organization announced today.

Kiprop was the 2016 Central Region Athlete of the Year during the outdoor season and won the 2016 National Championship in both the Outdoor 10k and Cross Country. He also has been the National Scholar Athlete of the Year in both 2015 and 2016 for the cross country seasons.

This year, Kiprop is ranked 1st nationally at 5k with a time of 13:53.94 that ranks as the 12th-fastest time in NCAA DII history. He is also ranked 2nd nationally at 3k with a time of 8:04.04. He scored 28 points at the MIAA Indoor Championships with a sweep of the distance titles and a runner-up finish in the mile, which he ran out of the slower heat.

Kiprop will be competing in both the 3k and 5k at this weeks 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
