Joplin, Mo. -- A bases-loaded walk to Brett Graham scored Max Hogan and the Missouri Southern baseball team walked off for the second game in a row, defeating visiting Missouri Western 5-4 today at Warren Turner Field.
Southern (15-10, 7-4 MIAA) was led by a 2-4 day from Hogan as he scored a run and drove in three. Tyler Sutherland had two hits and scored two runs, while Danny Biggs went 3-4. Dave Prost and Graham had an RBI each.
Dan Hawk started and looked strong as he went six innings, striking out two and allowing three runs in the no-decision. Colin Chandler threw two innings in relief, while Cody Smith threw the eighth to pick up his fifth win of the year.
Western (11-10, 8-3 MIAA) got four hits each from Bailey Zimmer and David Glaude.
The Griffons got on the board first as Zimmer homered in the second. Southern tied it up in the third with a sacrifice fly from Hogan. Western got two more runs in the sixth to go up 3-1, but the Lions tied it in the bottom of the seventh on RBIs from Hogan and Prost.
After the Griffons went back on top with a run in the top of the ninth, the Lions started their comeback. Tyler Sutherland singled to start the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Biggs. He scored on an RBI single to right from Hogan. Prost was hit by a pitch and Gorski walked to load the bases. Graham worked a 3-1 count before ball four was called, forcing in Hogan and the winning run.
The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow afternoon. First-pitch is slated for 1 pm.
