MSSU baseball falls to Emporia State 2-0

Emporia, Kan. -- The Missouri Southern baseball team got a stellar pitching game from Seth Mesey, but the 13th-ranked Emporia State Hornets scored two runs in the bottom of the 8th to take the opening game of the series, 2-0 tonight in Emporia.

Southern (11-8, 4-3 MIAA) got a hit each from Danny Biggs and Mike Million, while Richie Gorski and Max Hogan walked once each.

Mesey started and went eight innings, allowing two runs, one earned, and striking out two with just two hits allowed.

Emporia (14-3, 4-0 MIAA) got an equally good start from Seth Holman with Nathan Whitcom getting the save. Mack Gowing and Jonny Hodges had a hit each for the Hornets.

Southern threatened in the fourth when Gorski and Hogan walked to put a pair on with just one out. Both of them moved up 90 feet with a stolen base, but ESU got out of the inning.

The Hornets scored two in the bottom of the eighth and the Lions went in order in the ninth.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow with a 3 pm start.
