Former MSSU reliever to umpire two major league exhibition games

Joplin, Mo. -- Former Missouri Southern Lion and current minor league umpire Grant Conrad has been selected to umpire a pair of Major League Spring Training games this month.

Conrad, a 2012 grad of MSSU, pitched two years out of the bullpen for the Lions. A native of Lafayette, La., the lefty saw action in 31 games with two starts and a save for the Lions. Conrad broke into Minor League Baseball as an umpire in 2013 and has worked seasons in the Gulf Coast League, New York Penn League, the South Atlantic League and the Florida State League. This year, Conrad has been assigned to umpire in the AA Texas League.

Conrad will umpire the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays game on March 30 from Port Charlotte, Fla., as well as being part of the crew for the game between the Twins and their AAA affiliate the Rochester Red Wings on March 31 in Fort Myers.

Conrad's AA season begins on April 6 in Little Rock, Ark.
