Kansas City, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team have been picked third, while the women were picked fifth as the MIAA released the 2017 preseason outdoor coaches poll today.
After finishing third at the 2017 MIAA Indoor Championships and 13th nationally, the Lions are picked third in this year's poll and garnered one first-place vote. Pittsburg State was picked to finish first, while Lincoln, Southern, Central Missouri and Nebraska-Kearney round out the top five. Fort Hays State, Emporia State, Northwest Missouri, Lindenwood, Washburn and Southwest Baptist round out the men's poll.
On the women's side, the Lions were third at this past year's Indoor Championships and finished 24th at the NCAA Division II Championships. Pittsburg State was picked first, followed by Lincoln, Southwest Baptist, Central Missouri and Southern for the top five. Lindenwood, Nebraska-Kearney, Fort Hays State, Northwest Missouri, Emporia State, Central Oklahoma and Washburn round out the women's poll.
The Lions are in action today as they compete at the 2017 ESU Spring Invite in Emporia.
