Southern soccer loses to Missouri Western 2-0

St. Joseph, Mo. - The Missouri Southern Lions (2-7-0, 0-3-0 MIAA) fell 2-0 Friday evening to Missouri Western (5-2-1, 1-1-1 MIAA) at Spratt Stadium.

The Griffons got the scoring started in the 26th minute as Bridget Blessie as she put home a second rebound off a free kick. Missouri Western would add one more in the second half as Sydney Cluck headed home a pass off the back post from Jordyn Galvin in the 78th minute.

Missouri Western dominated the Lions as they out shot Southern 26-10 over and 9-2 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Shawnee Phillips played all 90 minutes in the net for the Lions allowing the two goals and coming up with seven saves. Sophomore forward Hannah Bomar led the way for the Southern with three shots while senior Karley Thomas and fellow sophomore Anissa Williams recorded the two shots on goal for the Lions.

Up next for Southern will be a Sunday match with the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats at noon from Bearcat Pitch.
