The Missouri Southern Lions fell Monday night 1-0 to visiting Washburn at Hal Bodon Field.
The Ichabods (4-7-3, 3-3-1 MIAA) scored the lone goal in the second half as Paige Swanson headed home her third goal of the season off a header assist from Presley Wiggins off a Washburn corner in the 51st minute.
Washburn out shot the Lions (2-11-1, 0-7-1 MIAA) 18-6 including 7-1 in the second half. Junior Carly Cecil recorded two shots for the Lions with seniors Kayla Gajewski, Kacie Hulse, and Karley Thomas all contributing one each. Southern's best chance to score came in the first half as sophomoreAnissa Williams took a cross and aimed for the lower right 90 but it was saved by the Ichabods' goalie.
Senior goalkeeper Shawnee Phillips once again played all 90 minutes in the net for the Lions coming up with eight saves on the night.
Southern will be back in action this Friday as they head to Edmond, Oklahoma to take on the University of Central Oklahoma. Kickoff from Tom Thompson Field is scheduled for 4 p.m.
