The Missouri Southern Golf team finished the Holiday Inn Express Classic in tenth place overall and in sixth place in the MIAA points standings Tuesday afternoon at the St. Joseph Country Club.
Senior Ethan Hutcheson led the way for the Lions from the first round shotgun start on Monday to the final hole on Tuesday as he placed 26th overall, 15th in the MIAA points standings, with a three round total of 225 (74-74-77), Freshman Tristan Haltom was second on the team with a 15-over 288 (78-72-78) for a share of 36th. Junior Taylor Lansford continued his move upward in the final round as he carded a 2-over 73 to bring his total to 230 (82-75-73), while sophomore Connor Neil finished the three round tournament with a 234 (79-75-80) and juniorCameron Hamilton finished the two day event with a 237 (77-85-75).
Central Missouri won the team title as the Mules moved up three spots to over take fellow MIAA school Central Oklahoma with the tournament low round of 279 for a three round total of 871 (297-297-279). UCO finished in second with a score of 22-over 874 (294-295-285) and Northeastern State moved up three spots into third with a 31-over 883 (296-300-287). Winona State of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference came in fourth with an 885 (291-299-295) and the Great American Conference's Southwestern Oklahoma State finished in fifth with an 889 (300-299-290), Arkansas Tech came in sixth with an 893 (294-296-303), and Henderson State in seventh with a 901 (301-302-298). Washburn finished the tournament in eighth with a three round total of 903 (304-294-305) followed by Lindenwood in ninth with a team score of 906 (297-296-313). The Lions rounded out the top 10 as they closed the gap on both Washburn and Lindenwood with a final round of 303 to give them a total of 907 (308-296-303).
Minneosta State-Mankato finished in 11th with a 911 (304-301-306), Missouri Western moved up two spots into 12th with a 914 (299-314-301), Nebraska-Kearney (306-303-306)dropped one spot into a tie for 13th with Augustana (S.D.) (314-300-301) at 915, and Harding dropped three spots into 15th with a 920 (305-304-311). Rounding out the 20 team field was Concordia - St. Paul in 16th (942, 308-320-314), Upper Iowa (952, 318-315-319), Fort Hays State (958, 325-310-323), Southwest Baptist (959, 314-330-315) and Lincoln (987, 327-338-322).
Brent Williamson of Northeastern State won the individual title with a 3-under 210 (71-70-69).
Southern now sits in third place in the team standing with 16 points through two conference events. Hutcheson is in the top 10 in the individual standing with Lansford and Hamilton both in the top 20 as well. Full up to the date MIAA Points standings can be found below.
The Lions will take a week off before closing their fall portion of the schedule with the Payne Stewart Invitational at the Payne Stewart Golf Course in Branson, Missouri. The tournament is being hosted by Arkansas Tech University.
