Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern football team ran into a potent Central Missouri offense today and the Lions fell 54-10 on the road inside Walton Stadium.
Southern (1-4, 1-4 MIAA) scored twice late on a 22-yard field goal from Brock Renken and on a 19-yard touchdown pass toChad Nolan from Kyle Keller.
UCM (3-2, 3-2 MIAA) racked up 705 yards of total offense in the game.
Central Missouri led 31-0 at the half and the Mules scored 21 points in the third quarter before the Lions got on the board with Renken's field goal. Keller, who came in the game midway through the second quarter after TJ Fleeton went off with an in injury, hooked up with Nolan for a late score.
Keller went 18-36 for 188 yards and a score in his first major action of the season. Fleeton went 5-14 with 41 yards in the air. Will Gregory had 16 carries for 54 yards. Michael Nelsonhad seven catches for 61 yards, while Terrell Crawford had four catches for 55 yards, while Nolan caught four for 53 yards and a score.
Defensively, the Lions were led by Johnquavious McBride with nine tackles, seven of which were solo. He added an interception return for 25 yards. Dominick Bell had nine tackles, while Chris Goss III had eight and Kyjuan Tate added seven. Stephan Randall and Laynce Sanders had a half a sack each, while Rolandeis Toliver and Ryan Solomon had a forced fumble each.
The Lions had ten tackles for a loss of 24 yards, two forced fumbles, a paif of fumble returns, three pass break ups and two quarterback hurries.
The Lions will be back in action next Saturday when Southern plays host to Central Oklahoma. Kickoff from Hughes Stadium inside the Robert W. Plaster Sports Complex is slated for 6 pm.
