The Missouri Southern volleyball team fell three sets to one tonight at home to visiting Southwest Baptist. Individual set scores were 16-25, 22-25, 25-23 and 18-25.
The Lions (1-15, 0-5 MIAA) out hit SBU .121-.116 and out block the Bearcats (3-12, 1-4 MIAA) 12-7, but couldn't pull out the come-from-behind win.
Set one saw four tied scores and three lead changes. The set was tied at six, but SBU scored six of the next eight points to take a 12-8 lead.
In set two, Southern led 13-8, but SBU scored seven of the next eight points to lead 15-14 and force a Southern timeout. The Lions tied the set at 17 and again at 19, but SBU went on to win the set.
In set four, there were ten tied scores and four lead changes. The Lions hit .182 in the set and took a 13-12 lead midway through the set on a kill from Callie Whetstone. SBU led 17-13, forcing a Southern timeout, but the Lions scored four-straight points to tie the set and forced a Bearcats' timeout. SBU led 22-21, but Southern scored four of the final five points to take the set.
The fourth set was tied 11, but SBU scored four-straight points to take a 15-11 lead and go on to win 25-18.
Payton Graves led the Lions with ten kills, no errors and a .500 attack average. She added three blocks. Whetstone had seven kills and seven blocks, while Bridgette Jaeger added eight kills.Bradyn Wall had a double-double with 24 assists and 12 digs, while Katie Wiele had a team-high 17 digs.
The Lions will be back in action this Friday as they play host to Central Oklahoma at 6 pm.
