The Missouri Southern volleyball program got 11 kills from Payton Graves and seven blocks from Callie Whetstone, but the Lions fell three sets to none tonight against Missouri Western inside Young Gym. Individual set scores were 16-25, 21-25 and 21-25.
The Lions (2-19, 1-9 MIAA) were led by Graves as the senior had 11 kills, hit .500 and addded four digs and a block. Whetstone had five kills and seven blocks, while Abby Finderdished out 29 assists and added five digs. Bridgette Jaeger had six kills and nine digs, while Monica White added seven kills and two blocks.
Western (16-5, 8-2 MIAA) was led by seven kills each from Jordan Chohon and Jessie Thorup. Chohon added 27 assists.
The first set saw four ties and one lead change, while set two saw two of each. In set three, the Lions raced out to an 11-7 lead, forcing a Western timeout. The score was 16-11, forcing another Western timeout, but the Griffons fought back out of the timeout to tie the set at 17. The score was tied again at 18, 20 and 21, but Western scored the final four points to take the match.
The Lions will be back in action tomorrow evening, playing host to Northwest Missouri. First serve is slated for 7 pm inside Young Gym.
