Jaeger has career night, but MSSU volleyball falls short

Missouri Southern freshman Bridgette Jaeger had a career night, but the Lions volleyball team couldn't pull out the win, falling in five sets at Lindenwood, 3-2. Individual set scores were 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 18-25 and 7-15.

The Lions (2-18, 1-8 MIAA) were led by Jaeger's 18 kills, a career-high, while the freshman added 12 digs and two blocks for the double-double. Monica White and Payton Graves had nine kills each with Graves adding five blocks, while Alyx Gepford had eight kills of her own. Abby Finder dished out 42 assists and added 13 digs, while Katie Wiele had a match-high 19 digs of her own.

Lindenwood (11-9, 3-6 MIAA) had three with double-figure kills, led by 20 from Alex Dahlstrom.

Set one saw 12 tied scores and four lead changes, but the Lions took the lead for good at 21-20. The set was tied at 20 apiece, but Southern scored five of the final six points. In set two, there were five ties and one lead change, but Lindenwood took the lead for good at 14-13.

A kill from White midway through the third set gave the Lions a 14-12 lead and another kill from White made the lead 20-15 as the Lions rolled to the set win. Lindenwood never trailed in the fourth set as they forced the fifth and deciding frame. The fifth set was all Lindenwood as they had the lead 8-3 at the turn and held on for the win.

Southern will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 23 as the Lions play host to Missouri Western. First serve from Young Gymnasium is slated for 7 pm.
