MSSU golf finishes ninth at Payne Stewart Invitational

The Missouri Southern Golf team battled the 7,364 yard par 72 course and mother nature as they finished ninth at the Payne Stewart Invitational at the Branson Hills Golf Club hosted by Arkansas Tech University.

The Lions entered the final round today in sixth following a 15-over 303 round one yesterday afternoon and followed that up with a 21-over 309 in the rain soaked second round today. Junior Taylor Lansford led the way for Southern as he finished with a share of 18th with a 5-over 149 (72-77). Junior Cameron Hamilton, playing as an individual, moved up 12 spots into a tie for 20th as he improved his second round score by four strokes for a two day total of 150 (77-73) at 6-over. SophomoreConnor Neil was one stroke back of Hamilton in a tie for 24th with a 7-over 151 (75-76). Freshman Tristan Haltom was the biggest mover on the day for Southern as he climbed 16 spots into a tie for 31st shaving six strokes off his first round score of 80 for a 10-over 154 (80-74). Senior Ethan Hutcheson finished at 14-over 158 (76-82) and red-shirt freshman Grant Seifriedcarded a two round total of 169 (86-83).

Central Missouri won the team title with a two round total of 3-under 573. Lindenwood finished in seventh with a 33-over 609, followed by Southern in ninth, Lincoln University in 11th (631) and Southwest Baptist in 12th (643).

The Payne Stewart Invitational was the final event for the fall season for the Lions. They go into their off-season tied for third in the MIAA standings with six points and have three individuals Hutcheson, Lansford, and Hamilton in the top 20 in the individual standings.

Southern will begin their spring season February 15-16 in the San Antonio Shoot Out at the TPC San Antonio-Canyons Course/AT&T Oaks Course) hosted by Oklahoma Christian University.
