For the second time this year, Missouri Southern freshman Vincent Kiprop has been named the MIAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced today.
Kiprop, a native of Kericho, Kenya, earns the honor for the second time this year, and has picked up the award in each week he has ran.
Kiprop raced to an 11th place finish at the Chili Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas. He was the third-best Non Division I runner finishing behind only a junior college runner and three seconds behind Colorado Mines senior Marty Andrie.
Kiprop improved his time in the 8k by 17 seconds from his win at the Southern Stampede. Overall, Kiprop finished behind just six Division I runners, one JUCO runner, two unattached athletes and one D-2 runner.
The Lions will be back in action this week as Southern travels to Rolla to compete in the Jackling Jocks Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T.
