(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern Lions used a second half comeback to secure a 2-2 tie with Emporia State on Saturday afternoon at Hal Bodon Field.

Emporia State (7-5-1, 3-3-1 MIAA) got the scoring started in the 10th minute as Amelie Heun took a give and go from Grace Linton and beat the Lions' goal keeper to the lower left 90 and the first half would end with the score a 1-0 in favor of the Hornets. ESU converted on a penalty kick after a yellow card on Southern in the box in the 51st minute to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lions mounted a comeback in the 72nd minute as sophomore Hannah Bomar rifled a shot past the ESU goalie off a cross from fellow sophomore Brooke Ishmael from outside the right of the box. Just three minutes later Ishmael's sister, senior Hannah Ishmael, would get the equalizer off a rebound of her own blocked shot following a corner taken by seniorMichaela Altvater.

The Hornets out shot Southern 19-16 in the game but the Lions held a 3-2 advantage in both the overtime periods.

Senior goalkeeper Shawnee Phillips played all 110 minutes in the net as she recorded six saves in earning her first draw of the season.

Southern will be back in action on Monday, October 19 in the rescheduled game from Thursday night as they host the Washburn Ichabods at 7 p.m.
