Webb City, Neosho athletes sign with MSSU women's track

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

Missouri Southern women's track and field coach Patty Vavra has announced the addition of two student-athletes for the 2015-16 season.

Joining the Lions will be Tiffany Gilford of Neosho High School and Desirae Buerge from Webb City High School. Burege has actually signed to play basketball for the Lions, but will also participate as a member of the track and field team, as well.

Gilford is a four-year letterwinner in track and field at Neosho HS for coach Zac Nelson where she was a sprinter and a jumper.

She was the district and conference champion as a junior in both the 100m hurdles and the long jump, as well as the 100m dash. She was an all-state selection in the long jump and is the conference record holder in the long jump, as well as the NHS record holder in the event (17-4.5). As a freshman, Gilford was the newcomer of the year on her team and was the team MVP as a sophomore and a junior.

The daugher of Steven and Della Gilford, Tiffany plans to major in nursing at MSSU.

Buerge set the WCHS record in discus with a throw of 153-8 and in the shot put with a throw of 44-4. Buerge earned All-State in both shot and discus her junior year, winning the MSHSAA Class 4 title in discus, and All-State in discus her sophomore season. She will join Coach Patty Vavra and the Lions Track & Field team for the outdoor season as well.

Desirea is the daughter of Robert and Tana Buerge and has three siblings. She plans to major in nursing or biology at Southern.

Vavra expects two more signings this week.
