Southern women cross country wins MIAA championship

The Missouri Southern Lions Women's Cross Country Team completed the 2014 MIAA Championship sweep Saturday afternoon.

The Lions finished in first with a total of 44 points, 26 points ahead of second place Southwest Baptist. Southern was paced by sophomore Emily Harris (pictured) who finished fourth with a time of 22:01.60. Junior Kindra Emberton finished one spot behind Harris with a time of 22:14.56 while senior Dora Eastin finished in eighth and senior Kaitlyn Belisle came in 12th at 22:35.39.

Juniors Addie Mengwasser and Dana Roberson finished in 15th and 16th, respectively, while sophomoreLizzy Kirby came in at 29th with a time of 23:45.36. Sophomore Kayla Bartelsmeyer finished in 35th with fellow sophomore Sierra Gray in 36th and senior Kelly Jo Roberts rounding out the team in 73rd.

The Lions men and women have now swept the MIAA Cross Country Championships for the third time since 2007 and both squads earned 2014-15 State Farm Trophy Series points putting the Lions up 2-1.

Southern will now prepare for the NCAA D2 Central Region Meet on Nov. 22 in Wayne, Neb.
