Missouri Southern coaches Patty Vavra and Bryan Schiding have both been named the MIAA Cross Country Coaches of the Year, the league announced today.
Both men's and women's teams swept the 2014 MIAA Championships this year with the men winning in a dominating performance, scoring only 22 points. The women also had a strong victory, scoring just 44 points, 26 points ahead of second place Southwest Baptist.
The men went 1-2-3 with Eric Schott winning the individual title. Schott has yet to be defeated by a Division II opponent this year. All five of the Lions' scorers finished in the top ten.
The women had all five scoring times finish in the top 15 with three in the top ten.
Both teams are off this week as they prepare the 2014 NCAA Division II Central Region Race being run on November 22 in Wayne, Neb. The race will be hosted by Wayne State.
