The Missouri Southern men's basketball team shot 66 percent in the second half and 47 percent in the game as the Lions gave head coach Jeff Boschee win number one in his career, defeating Arkansas-Fort Smith 91-81 on the road tonight.

The Lions (1-2) were led offensively by Austin Wright as the sharpshooter nailed five three pointers on the way to 19 points on the evening. UAFS (0-3) was led offensively by 18 points from Kenny Martin.

Both teams traded points early on before the Lions opened up a five point lead (15-10) after a layup from Blaine Miller with 13:11 left to play in the first half. A pair of free-throws from UAFS' Alex Cooper gave Fort Smtih a 20-17 lead. A three from Miller with 5:19 left put the Lions back on top 27-26, and Southern would lead 34-31 at the break.

A three by Prince a little over a minute into the second half gave the Lions a 39-34 lead, but the game went back-and-fourth before a jumper from Wright and a pair of free-throws gave the Lions a five-point lead (58-53) with 12:02 left to play.

Fort Smith tied the game again, but a layup from Brown with 6:13 left to play opened up a seven point lead and a dunk from Renfroe made the lead nine (79-70) with 3:54 to go. The lead was as high as 12 after a Cornelius layup with 2:33 left to play made the score 83-71.

The Lions shot just 33 percent in the first half and scored 34 points, but turned it round and shot 66 percent in the second half, while scoring 57 points. Southern made ten three pointers on the night, and forced 11 UAFS turnovers, scoring 13 points off the miscues.
