Missouri Southern men's track and field coach Bryan Schiding has announced the addition of three student-athletes to run track and field and cross country for the Lions starting in the fall of 2015.
Joining Southern are Blake Barth from Carl Junction High School, Janzen White of Joplin High School and Jared Haltom from Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School.
Barth is a distance runner and was a four-year varsity letter winner for the Bulldogs and coach Adam Heldeberg. While at CJHS, he was a three-time All-Conference and All-District runner, while earning All-State honors as both a junior and a senior. He was a conference and district champion as a senior. He was named the Class 3 District 6 Athlete of the Year as both a junior and a senior.
On the track, Barth was a sectional qualifier in the 1,600m and the 3,200m, while also qualifying for the state meet in the 3,200m and helping his team to a sectional title as a junior. Barth is the son of Brandon and Cindy Barth and plans to major in business ta Southern.
White is another distance runner that was a two-year letter winner at both Joplin High School, as well as Diamond High School. White ran his final two years at JHS for former Lion All-American Dustin Dixon. A decorated athlete at JHS, he was a state qualifier in cross country in as both a sophomore and a senior.
As a sophomore, he finished 65th in the state meet in a time of 18:36.50, while finishing 151st as a senior with a time of 17:53.86. Throughout his high school career, White participated in both track and cross country, while also earning a letter as a wrestler at Diamond. The son of Mark and Donna White, White plans to be a pre-law major at Southern.
Haltom is another distance runner that comes to Southern from Broken Arrow High School for coach Clay Mayes where he was a three time All-State honoree as a sophomore, junior and a senior. He earned four varsity letters in both track and field and cross country at BAHS.
Haltom is the son of Brad and Susan Haltom. His father was a track and field athlete at Northeastern State, while his mother was a softball player at Southwestern Oklahoma. He is undecided on his future major at Southern.
