Missouri Southern senior third basemen Max Hogan was named the MIAA Player of the Year today as seven Lions earned All-MIAA recognition today when the MIAA announced the All-MIAA team prior to the start of the 2017 MIAA Baseball Tournament.
Hogan leads the MIAA in five different offensive categories, including walks, on base percentage, slugging and total bases. Hogan ranks second in RBIs, third in home runs and third in doubles. Nationally, Hogan is second in walks, eighth in on base percentage and 20th in slugging. Hogan is hitting .393 this year with 13 home runs, 18 doubles nad 55 RBIs, while going 14-17 in stolen bases.
Hogan was a first-team selection, along with fellow senior Tyler Sutherland. Sutherland this year is second in the MIAA in runs scored with 57 and leads the league in sacrifice flies. Sutherland is hitting .360 this year with 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 44 RBIs.
Catcher Dave Prost and first baseman Joe Paulino were both third-team selections. This year Prost is second in the MIAA in home runs with 14 and seventh in RBIs with 49. Paulino is hitting .382 with five home runs and 18 RBIs, while carrying a .995 fielding percentage.
Alec Alvarez, Danny Biggs and Brett Graham were all named honorable mention All-MIAA picks in the league. Alvarez hit .313 with 12 doubles and 24 RBIs, while Biggs hit .348 with 26 RBIs and nine stolen bases. Graham hit .337 with eight home runs and 48 RBIs.
In a new addition to the All-MIAA team, the league has added a Gold Glove team and Sutherland was named to that team as a representative in the outfield. He finished the year with a .987 fielding percentage and seven outfield assists.
