Axtell, Neb. - Missouri Southern junior Connor Neil sits in 33rd place after the opening round of the NCAA D2 Central/Midwest Regional Monday afternoon at Awarii Dunes.
Neil started the day even par on the first six holes before sinking a birdie on 404 yard par 4 seventh hole to go 1-under. He pared eight and nine to make the turn at even par and started the back nine with a pair of pars on ten and 11. Neil bogeyed 12 to go back to even but gained the stroke back on the 127 yard par three 13th. Neil shot par on 14 before a bogey on 15 put him back at even par. Neil pared 16 and 18 with a birdie on 17 to finish the day at 1-under.
Central Missouri leads the 20 team field with a 16-under 272. Lindenwood sits in second place with a 9-under 279 while Central Oklahoma is tied for seventh with a 5-under 283. Washburn and Northeastern State are 17th and 18th, respectively at 7-over and 9-over.
Keenai Sampson of McKendree University leads the individual race after an opening round of 9-under 63. Alex Springer of Central Missouri is the top MIAA golfer tied for third with a 5-under 67 first round.
