Fresh off a top four finish in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, Missouri Southern head softball coach Melissa Chmielewski announced the dates for the 2017 Summer Skills Camps.
The goal of the Missouri Southern State University Skills Softball Camp is to improve on offensive and defensive skills of participants. Players will get intense instruction on fielding, throwing and hitting skills.
Chmielewski will be the lead instructor and is in her second year at helm of the MSSU Softball program. She will be assisted by members of the MSSU coaching staff and MSSU players.
All camps will be held on the MSSU softball fields and adjoining field located on the east side of campus near the football stadium.
The Cub Camp will be June 13-14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Cub Camp is for the younger player (ages 6-12) or the first time player. Instruction will focus on throwing, catching, hitting, infield and outfield play. Campers will be grouped by experience and skill level. Each camper will receive a t-shirt.
Registration deadline for the Cub Camp is June 7th and the fee is $80.
The Lioness Camp will be June 19-20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the 19th and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 20th. The Lioness Camp is for the experienced player ages 12-18. Players will grouped by experience and skill level. Age exceptions may be made with the understanding that no special accommodations will be made for campers outside of the above age group. The evening session on the 19th is a pitchers only session.
Instruction will focus on throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, infield and outfield play. Specific position skill work will be done in the afternoon sessions. Positions include first base, second base, third base, short stop and outfield. Campers should bring sack lunch each day.
Registration deadline for the Lioness Camp is June 12th and fees are pitching session is $75, all skills session is $100, both days is $175.
