Bolivar, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern men's track and field team picked up one event win and three All-MIAA performances and sit in second place overall after day two of the 2017 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Southwest Baptist University.
Vincent Kiprop picked up the lone win today for the Lions as the nation's leader in the 10k won the MIAA championship in the event with a provisional time of 30:32.67, nearly nine seconds in front of second-place. Kiprop repeats as champion in the event. Tyler Rush and Cody Berry placed fifth and sixth, picking up seven points between the two and 17 in the race alone for the Lions.
Jordyn Manier was second in the long jump with a provisional distance of 24-05.00 to earn All-MIAA status and eight points for the team score. Brendan Watkins and Chance Johnson placed 9th and 11th in the event.
Bryan Burns was second in the shot put, setting a new MSSU outdoor record in the event, as he hit a provisional mark of 58-05.75 and earned All-MIAA honors. Burns also placed fourth in the discus with a distance of 161-10 to pick up five points.
Kyle Parr finished in 12th place in the decathlon with 4634 points.
In the running events, Keson Payton qualified for the finals of the 100m dash, but he and Thomas Hawkins just missed out for the finals in the 200m. Matt Willis just missed out for qualifying in the finals of the 110m hurdles, but did qualify for the finals in the 400m hurdles.
Zach Wuest picked up points in the pole vault with a 6th place finish, hitting a provisional height of 15-11, while Cortland Potter placed tenth and Dean Howard was 11th.
The Lions have 41 points after day one, sitting 19 points behind first-place Central Missouri after day one. Pittsburg State is third, followed by Fort Hays and Nebraska-Kearney to round out the top five.
The final day of the Championships will be tomorrow inside Plaster Stadium at SBU.
