Missouri Southern seniors Tyler Sutherland and Brett Graham have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District team as announced by the organization today.
To be selected for the award, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing, as well as not being a first-year transfer to the institution. Student-athletes must also maintain a minimum of a 3.30 GPA, as well as participate in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions. The award is voted on by sports information professionals throughout Division II.
Missouri Southern is part of District 7, which puts the Lions up against student-athletes in the MIAA, the Great American Conference and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Sutherland and Graham's names now goes on the national ballot for Academic All-American.
Graham, a native of Joplin, carries a 3.82 GPA in education. This season, Graham is hitting .318 with six home runs and 42 RBIs. Graham has been a three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll and a four-time member of the Dean's List at MSSU.
Sutherland, a native of Arkansas City, Kan., has started in all 95 games he's played in and this season is hitting .362 as the Lions' leadoff hitter. He has eight home runs and 40 RBIs, while scoring 52 runs and leading the MIAA and ranking 17th nationally in sacrifice flies. Sutherland is a two-time member of the Academic Honor Roll and has been on the Dean's List each year at Southern. He will graduate Cum Laude this May.
Sutherland and Graham were part of six MIAA members of the All-District team joining Joseph Hietpas of Northwest Missouri, David Glaude of Missouri Western and Collin Nevil and Matt Elliott of Central Missouri on the list.
