MSSU golf in eighth place after day one of Arkansas Collegiate

El Dorado, Ark. -- The Missouri Southern men's golf team is in 8th place after day one of the 2020 Arkansas Collegiate, hosted by Southern Arkansas University at Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark.

The course saw some rain early in the day and during the last few holes. The Lions' scores were about the same on the front nine compared to the back nine today as Southern was led by Alec Dominic and Jon Lenz coming into the clubhouse.

Dominic carded a 79 to finish seven over par and tied for 14th at the end of the round, but was playing as an individual and his score didn't count toward the Southern team score.








Lenz birdied hole number 14 and had nine holes at or below par to finish with an eight-over 80 on round one and is tied for 22nd. Logan Greer had a pair of birdies and nine total holes at or below par for an 82. Grant Sikes finished with an 86, while Taylor Haltom shot a first-round 88. Jonathan Sanchez finished at 89, while Justun Coyle, paying as an individual shot a 96.

Southern Arkansas is in the lead after day one with a 306 team score. Henderson State is three strokes off the lead in second, followed by Harding, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Southern Nazarene, Arkansas-Monticello, Northwestern Oklahoma, the Lions and Louisiana College to round out the team scores.

The teams will be back in action tomorrow morning as the final round will begin with a 9 am shotgun start.
