The No. 2 Missouri Southern State University women and No. 7 men's indoor track & field teams had 18 athletes earn a combined 23 all-region honors, as it was announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.
To earn such honors, athletes must be ranked amongst the top five athletes in each individual event or as one of the top three relay teams in one of the eight regions used in the NCAA Division II. Rankings are determined by season-best performances and only athletes from USTFCCCA Member institutions are eligible.
The Southern men, who won the program's third ever Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship, had 11 honorees including Rajindra Campbell, Josh Fulmer, Desmond Hall, Dean Howard, Jon Johnson, Gidieon Kimutai, Gabe McClain, Josh Norville, Ryan Riddle and Brendan Watkins. Elena Bisotto, Cornesia Calhoun-White, Jasmine Deckard, Claire Luallen, Emily Presley, Payton Roberts and Kiara Smith were the Lions' seven female honorees.
Campbell broke the shot put school record with a throw of 20.07 meters (65-10.25) to lead the nation while Fulmer's weight throw of 20.14 (66-1.00) places him No. 8 in the nation.
Howard finished fourth in the pole vault at the MIAA Championships and his leap of 5.18 meters (17-0.00) has him sixth in the NCAA. Watkins rounds out the field events as he sits in No. 10 in the triple jump with a leap of 15.14 meters (49-8.25).
Kimutai is All-Region in three events as he sits sixth nationally in the 5,000-meter with a time 14:03.08, No. 26 in the 3,000-meter dash with a time of 8:15.79 and No. 28 in the mile with a time of 4:10.11.
McClain, Johnson, Painter and Riddle are No. 26 in the distance medley relay with a time of 9:56.42.
In addition to the relay, Riddle sits at No. 13 in the mile with a time of 4:05.71 and No. 30 in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:19.83.
Bisotto is ranked No. 7 in the nation with her pole vault of 4.04 meters (13-3) while Presley leads the nation in the pole vault with her school record leap of 4.30 meters (14-1.25). Calhoun-White is sitting No. 8 in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.57. Deckard is sitting No. 7 in the 60 meters with a time of 7.49 and No. 2 in the 200-meter dash with an automatic qualifying time of 23.78. Luallen is sitting No. 22 nationally in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69. Roberts leads the NCAA in the shot put with her school record throw of 16.13 meters (52-11) while Smith is sitting at No. 4 in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55.
