Fitzpatrick homers twice, but MSSU falls to Emporia State 10-6

Emporia, Kan. -- The No. 11 ranked Missouri Southern baseball team got a pair of home runs from Jordan Fitzpatrick, but the Lions fell 10-6 in the series finale today at Emporia State.

Fitzpatrick paced the offensive attack for the Lions (13-4, 0-3 MIAA) as he had a solo shot in the second inning and a grand slam in the third inning for home runs number three and four on the season. Matt Miller hit a shot in the ninth for his third home run of the season, as well. Miller had a pair of hits and a run scored, while Dexter Swims had two hits, as well. Tommy Stevenson, Troy Gagan and Joe Kinder scored a run each.

Will Bausinger started and went six innings, allowing four earned runs, while striking out nine and scattering five hits. Logan VanWey, Corey Cowan and River Wright threw in relief. VanWey picked up the loss in relief.








Emporia (11-6, 3-0 MIAA) had three with two RBIs each.

Fitzpatrick put the Lions up 5-0 going into the fourth inning with his two home runs, but the Hornets scored four runs in the fourth to get within one. ESU then picked up three runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to put the game away.

Miller added his home run to start the ninth, but the Lions couldn't complete the comeback.

Southern will be back in action next weekend, playing host to Washburn in a three-game set beginning on Friday.
