MSSU baseball completes weekend sweep of Washburn

The No. 25 ranked Missouri Southern baseball team completed the three-game sweep of Washburn Sunday afternoon, defeating the Ichabods 12-5 at Warren Turner Field.

Southern (16-4, 3-3 MIAA) got outstanding work on the mound from Will Bausinger as he went seven innings, striking out seven and allowing just five hits to move to 3-1 on the season. River Wright and Corey Cowan pitched in relief.

Troy Gagan went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, one being an inside-the-park variety, while scoring three runs and driving in three as well. Clay Milas went 2-for-4, driving in four runs, while Jordan Fitzpatrick drove in a pair of his own. Brad Willis, Dexter Swims and Henry Kusiak all had RBIs and all scored a pair of runs. Tommy Stevenson and Joe Kinder each had a run with Kinder picking up a pair of hits.










Washburn (11-11, 3-3 MIAA) had five players with a hit each.

The Lions got on top with three runs in the first when Swims singled home Willis and Milas tripled home Swims and Fitzpatrick.

Washburn answered with two in the second, but the Lions scored three more in the second, starting with a sacrifice fly from Fitzpatrick, scoring Kusiak. Gagan then hit the first of his two home runs as he circled the bases for an inside-the-park homer scoring Stevenson. Milas doubled home Swims for the third run of the inning.

The Lions scored three more in the third as Kusiak had an RBI double to start things off and then Kusiak scored on an RBI from Willis. Fitzpatrick then singled home Willis.

Wsahburn picked up a run in the sixth, but Gagan answered in the bottom half of the inning wiht a home run to left. The Ichabods added another run in the eighth, but Milas hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to score Gagan for the final tally.

The Lions will be back in action this Tuesday as Southern travels to Drury for a mid-week non-conference tilt. First pitch from USA Baseball Park is set for 4 pm.
