Cozart, Owens earn All-MIAA recognition

The Missouri Southern women's basketball program saw seniors Destiny Cozart and Chasidee Owens earn All-MIAA Honorable Mention as the league released its postseason awards Tuesday.

Cozart has started all 27 games for the Lions this season and leads the Lions with 14.6 points per game. She averages 4.3 rebounds per game and has 57 assists and 31 steals. During her two years at Southern, Cozart played in 57 games where she averages 11.7 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Owens is second on the team as she averages 14.0 points per game, and she started all 21 games she played in this season. She averages 6.6 rebounds per game and had 29 assists and 21 steals. During her two years at Southern, Owens averages 12.6 points per game after starting all 51 games she played in.








Dave Slifer of Central Missouri was the MIAA Coach of the Year, while the Jennies' Megan Skaggs was the MIAA Player of the Year. Central Missouri's Nija Collier and Emporia State's Jessica Wayne were named the MIAA Co-Defensive Players of the Year, while the Hornet's Tre'zure Jobe was the MIAA Freshman of the Year.

The Lions open up the MIAA Tournament this Wednesday, taking on Washburn at 12:00 pm from Municipal Auditorium.
