Four MSSU men's basketball athletes receive all-MIAA honors

(From MSSU Lions Athletic News)

The Missouri Southern men's basketball program had four players earn MIAA honors as the league released its postseason awards today.

Cam Martin leads the way as he was named a first-team selection. Kinzer Lambert was a second-team pick, while Elyjah Clark was named to the third-team. Braelon Walker was a member of the MIAA All-Defensive Team.

This season, Martin leads the MIAA in scoring, rebounds, defensive rebounds per game, double-double's, free throw attempts, free throws made, total points and total rebounds, while ranking second in blocks, field goal percentage, and total field goals made. Martin ranks tenth and 11th nationally in free throws made and attempted, while ranking tenth in scoring and 11th in total points. Martin is averaging 24.3 points and 9.1 rebounds this year, while shooting 57 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.

Martin ranks 11th on the MSSU all-time scoring list and earlier this season set the MSSU single-game record with 54 points against Missouri Western. He currently ranks first in career scoring average (23.3), third in career field goal percentage (.590) and tied for fourth with Clark for career free throw percentage (.823). This is Martin's second All-MIAA honor as he earned first-team honors as a sophomore.

Lambert is averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds this year and has 1,389 points in his four-year career with the Lions. He is shooting 49 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line, while dishing out 64 assists and collecting 21 steals and 19 blocks. This is Lambert's third All-MIAA honor as he has twice been named an honorable mention selection.

Clark is averaging 12.3 points per game this year and 5.5 rebounds. He moved into the top-five of the all-time scoring list at Southern this year and currently sits at No. 5 with 1,755 points, 15 behind fourth place. Clark has a team-high 65 three pointers this year and is the MSSU career (355) and single-season (110) three-point leader. This is Clark's third All-MIAA selection after earning second-team honors as a sophomore and third-team honors last year as a junior. He was the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2016-17.

Walker earns his first nod on the MIAA's All-Defensive Team. This year, Walker has a team-high 37 steals, while averaging 8.9 points and 2.6 rebounds. He has 63 three-pointers and has a team-high .457 three-point percentage, but that number goes up in conference play as Walker has shot 51 percent from behind the arc in MIAA games. Walker was an honorable mention All-MIAA pick last year as a junior.

Ben McCollum of Northwest Missouri was the MIAA Coach of the Year, while the Bearcats' Trevor Hudgins was the MIAA Player of the Year. Northwest Missouri's Ryan Hawkins was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Missouri Western's Will Eames was the MIAA Freshman of the Year. The complete MIAA release can be found in the story links above.

The Lions open up the MIAA Tournament this Friday, taking on Northeastern State at 8:15 pm from Municipal Auditorium.
