MSSU baseball to play host to Washburn

The 25th ranked Missouri Southern baseball team will play host to Washburn this Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the Ichabods come into Joplin for a weekend series at Warren Turner Field. Game times for the series will be 3 pm on Friday and 1 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Southern (13-4, 0-3 MIAA) is coming off a three-game set at Emporia State. The Lions are No. 4 in the latest NCBWA Central Region Poll and No. 25 in the latest D2 National Poll.

The Lions lead the MIAA in stolen bases, home runs and strikeouts per nine innings. The team ranks second nationally in strikeouts per nine. Zach Parish comes into the weekend needing just five strikeouts to break the MIAA career strikeout record. Parish is second in the MIAA in wins and fifth nationally (4-0). Parish leads the MIAA in strikeouts, while Will Bausinger and Zac Shoemaker rank second and fourth, respectively in that category.








Logan VanWey leads the MIAA in saves with four, while Troy Gagan is second in runs scored and runs per game. Jordan Fitzpatrick and Joe Kinder rank fifth in the MIAA in home runs (4), while Brad Willis is fifth in the MIAA in walks and sixth in doubles.

About the Ichabods

Washburn (11-8, 3-0 MIAA) is coming off a three-game sweep of Missouri Western. The Lions defeated the Ichabods 4-2 earlier in the season at home. WU is led by Zion Bowlin who is hitting .467 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. Jacob Head is 5-0 on the season to lead the MIAA in wins and has a 2.30 ERAI to go with 29 strikeouts in 27.1 innings.

Up Next

The Lions will be back in action this week in a mid-week game at Drury on Tuesday afternoon and the Lions will get back into MIAA play with a three-game set next weekend at home against Missouri Western.
