PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University men's and women's indoor track & field teams will travel to Joplin, Mo., starting Friday (Feb. 24) for the three-day 2017 MIAA Indoor Championships hosted by Missouri Southern State University.
Friday's action, featuring the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon, begins at 3 p.m. (CST) at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center. On Saturday, the final four events of the men's heptathlon will start at 9 a.m. with the full meet getting under way at 1:30 p.m. Championship Sunday action starts at 10 a.m.
The men's field includes four teams ranked in the most recent USTFCCCA NCAA Division II Top 25 poll: No. 6 Missouri Southern, No. 19 Central Missouri, No. 22 Pitt State ad No. 23 Fort Hays State. Three MIAA women's squads are ranked in the top 25: No. 3 Pitt State, No. 10 Central Missouri and No. 24 Southwest Baptist.
The Pitt State men placed third at the 2016 MIAA Indoor Championships at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, while the Gorilla women finished as the 2016 MIAA Indoor Championships runner-up.
