The Missouri Southern baseball team scored three runs in the ninth, but it was not enough as the Lions fell 6-5 today to Wisconsin-Parkside at Warren Turner Field.
Southern (4-2) got another solid day from Max Hogan as he went 2-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Brett Graham had a hit and two RBIs, while Tyler Sutherland, Walker Whitworth, Richie Gorski and Alec Alvarez all had a hit each for the Lions. Alvarez and Sutherland scored a run each.
Dan Hawk started for the Lions and went four and two thirds, striking out two. Brandon Saddler threw a third of an inning, while Will Bausinger and Cody Smith threw the final four innings, holding Parkside (2-2) scoreless and allowing just two hits, while striking out three and walking none between the pair.
Both teams scored a run int he first with Hogan scoring in the first and the Lions went on top 2-1 after an RBI from Sutherland, scoring Hogan in the third.
Parkside scored a run in the fourth, another in the fifth and three in the sixth to go up 6-2.
The Lions plated three in the ninth as Alvarez started the inning with a double down the right field line. Hogan walked and the pair moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch. After Sutherland walked, the runners moved up a base on a wild pitch, scoring Alvarez. Brett Graham then singled up the middle, scoring Sutherland and Hogan.
The Lions will be back in action on Feb. 18 as Southern plays host to Truman State. The teams will play a double-header on Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 1 pm each day.
