Warrensburg, Mo. -- The Missouri Southern women's track and field team had a successful Friday as the team competed at three locations in the final week before the MIAA Championships.
In total, the Lions had four provisional marks at Central Missouri, an automatic mark at Arkansas and competitive times at Nebraska as Southern competed in three locations today.
At Arkansas, sophomore Emily Presley once again picked up an AQ in the event as she placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 13-05.00. The mark is her fifth AQ in the pole vault this season and she is only the second athlete in Division II with an AQ and only one from the MIAA, while still serving as the top vaulter in Division II.
At Central Missouri, Morgan Smith (pictured) broke her hurdles record once again as she raced to a blazing time of 8.65 in the finals to take second place in the event. The mark is a provisional time.
In other action at UCM, Samantha Donnell and Mylene Loridan both had provisional heights of 11-10.00 in the pole vault as they tied for second place, while Allie Heckemeyer won the triple jump in a provisional distance of 38-10.25.
Tiffany Gilford was second in the long jump with a distance of 15-11.50, wile she was also sixth in the finals of the 60m dash wit a time of 8.10. Destiny Akannam was second in the 600y as she finished in a time of 1:28.84, while Rachel Ray was fourth and Kelsey Evans was sixth.
Kristen Koch was fifth in the 400m in a time of 1:03.45, while Ronise Miller placed seventh in a time of 1:04.13.
At Nebraska, Emily Harris placed sixth in the mile with a time of 5:03.46, while Sara Linn was 13th in the 800m in a time of 2:25.34. Sierra Gray and Sierra Wells placed 11th and 13th, respectively in the 3k with times of 10:29.90 and 10:41.67.
Southern will be back in action next weekend as the Lions play host to the 2017 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The meet will take place on Friday through Sunday inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
